Ok the big questions Do I buy my ski gear at home or on holiday? Do I take advantage of the strong pound against the Euro and Dollar?
Skiwildfire’s Answer… This is your holiday, time is precious. You are paying by the day just to be there! Time spent shopping is time not spent skiing or boarding - you figure it out! But I would never go on a ski holiday without good fitting boots (Hazel)
Need more - Ok when you arrive at the resort you are a captive audience, currency advantages and discount prices (unless end of season) just melt away like spring snow.
Tip 1 A big given — the pivotal factor in enjoying your skiing is the correct boots that fit well and are seriously comfortable - It can take hours to find the right boot even then they may need tuning to your feet.
So tip 1 - At the very minimum Buy your boots in the UK.
On to tip 2 Small resort stores often have highly fashionable clothes but extremely limited sizes. However some stores in Vail are huge in some respects this can be even worse the choice is almost endless. The tip - Even if you plan to splash out on a new outfit make sure you have the basics with you and know your USA equivalent sizes - For most, its not a shopping trip, its your winter sports holiday.
Onto Tip 3 Ok so it’s not really a tip we don’t actually know the answer. I have 4 pair of perfectly good ski’s and I tend to use one of them—ok two, one would be silly. Yet I also tend to rent because the continual improvement in ski technology appears to compensate for my aging knees! So the tip if you buy ski’s and you have the ones that suit you - fantastic but remember the average usage is only 10 weeks before you buy a new pair!
