OK - Why beetle kill and why hand crafted? As you might expect furnishing a brand new ski lodge with lots of log features is a serious challenge. You need to complement the design of the property and a key issue is of course the choice of beds... Once we decided the on log beds and found a seriously attractive log bed style in a mountain store, we were disappointed to hear they had sold the last bed... But we were given contact number of the guy who makes them in the back woods:) We looked at some other inferior log beds but eventually, we ventured up into the mountains and high elevation forests north of Blackhawk Colorado. This this the place you expect to see banjo players with just one tooth and a leery grin!) - Yep its remote! What did we find — Geoff Cleveland and his charming family who make the most amazing furniture. After showing us around his home and bedrooms— each family member sleeps in their own log bed, we ordered his hand crafted log beds for every room. The choice of wood was Aspen, Pine or Lodge Pole Pines that have been killed by beetles . They whole of Colorado is effected by the beetles and thousands of this species of tree are dead or dying— It happens every 100 years or so —not global warming or some such! A by-product of the beetle damage is that the wood is very attractively stained and marked in the process. Indeed — We were so amazed and very attracted to the beetle kill effect we also ordered a 10 ft 3” thick table for the same wood. So what happened next? We said we needed them during our next trip in 5 week time. Indeed 5 weeks later Jeff, his wife and her mom arrived and quickly assembled the Table and beds. The best surprise was the bed post with the bullet lodged in it. Yes you can now book the Junior suite “Bullet” room. The invitation - Come and spend a week with us in Breckenridge · And...
